If I pay a collections account or a charged-off account, will the negative information be removed from my credit report?
No. Your credit report will reflect paid charge off or paid collection and will remain on your report for 7 years from the day it is paid. If you pay off a collection/charged-off account that is over three years old(1), you can actually lower your credit score. Sometimes it’s better to let mother nature take it’s course.
